Liquor Permits & Compliance
Legal Representation Before the Ohio Liquor
Control Commission
The Ohio Liquor Control Commission is the state
agency responsible for ensuring compliance with the
liquor laws and regulations of the state of Ohio.
The Commission works in conjunction with the Ohio
Department of Commerce, Division of Liquor Control,
and the Ohio Department of Public Safety,
Investigative Unit.
The Ohio Liquor Control Commission holds hearings
each month regarding permit holders, who have been
accused of violating the Ohio liquor laws for
various reasons, including underage sale, unsanitary
conditions, illegal Sunday sales and illegal
gambling. If the Ohio Liquor Control Commission
determines that the permit holder committed a
violation of the Ohio liquor laws, it may levy a
fine against the permit holder, suspend the license
for a period of time, or revoke the license.
If the permit holder is a corporate entity, such as
a corporation or limited liability company, and does
not hire an attorney, it must admit the charges
before the Ohio Liquor Control Commission. Ohio law
requires the corporate entity to hire an attorney to
deny the charges and defend its rights before the
Ohio Liquor Control Commission.
Our Firm understands the value of maintaining your
liquor license in good standing and will work
diligently to avoid its suspension.
We have valuable experience in providing counsel and
representation to permit holders accused of
violating Ohio liquor laws. We understand the
importance of keeping your business’ license in good
standing, as well as the significance of minimizing
the risk posed by the fines and suspensions issued
by the Ohio Liquor Control Commission. For most
situations, we provide legal representation to Ohio
liquor permit holders for a reasonable one-time flat
fee.
Applications and Transfers
With respect to alcohol products, any business
engaged in the manufacturing, distributing, or
selling of these in Ohio is required to obtain
appropriate liquor permits from the Division of
Liquor Control, which issues a variety of permits,
allowing the sale of differing types of alcoholic
beverages, at varying times.
Applying for a new liquor permit, or seeking the
transfer of an existing liquor permit, requires
certain paperwork be completed accurately. All
supporting documents must be submitted at the time
the application or transfer request is processed, or
the permit request may be denied.
Our Firm will help evaluate your needs and goals so
that you can obtain the permit that is most
appropriate for your business, and ensure your
application is completed properly so as not to delay
the receipt of your permit.

Compliance
Ohio liquor permit holders are subject to many
regulations by the State of Ohio. These regulations
include limits on advertising, standards regarding
cleanliness, regulations regarding spigot labeling
and prohibitions on the sale of alcohol to persons
under twenty-one or who are intoxicated.
As a permit holder, it is a daunting task to ensure
that your business and your employees comply with
all of the rules and regulations relating to the
sale of beer, wine and liquor.
We understand that ensuring compliance with all of
the applicable rules can seem overwhelming. Our Firm
offers compliance training to both permit holders
and their employees, which are tailored to each
particular business. In most situations, we provide
these programs for a reasonable one-time flat fee.
