Ohio Attorney Jon Saia’s passion and hard work in the area of OVI defense has earned him some recognition–he has been featured on the cover of the 2014 Ohio & Kentucky issue of Super Lawyers® Magazine . The magazine’s cover story discusses Attorney Saia’s passion for challenging various aspects of what he considers to be a deeply flawed DUI/OVI system.

The article specifically discusses his fight against field sobriety tests and breath tests, which he considers to be deeply flawed. Mr. Saia is a fitting selection for the cover of the magazine’s Ohio & Kentucky issue, as he has been included in the Super Lawyers® list each year from 2007 through 2014.

Attorney Jon Saia–who is the founder of The Law Offices of Saia, Marrocco & Jensen Inc.–understands the ins and outs of field sobriety testing. As is noted in the magazine article, he has been certified as an administrator and instructor for these tests, which means that he knows how to properly conduct them and how to teach others to conduct them. He is also certified in the operation, diagnostic verification and calibration of the BAC Datamaster Alcohol Testing Instruments.

In 2011, Mr. Saia was successful in winning an important case, which resulted in a new requirement for the state of Ohio to allow test results to be challenged. That case result led to the state virtually shutting down use of 800 new Intoxilyzer 8000 breath test machines, according to Super Lawyers® Magazine.

In the magazine feature, Attorney Saia shared his concerns with how DUI/OVI tests are performed. He noted that field sobriety tests are far too easy to fail (even for someone who is sober) and breath testing machines are oftentimes inaccurate. He also noted that Ohio’s DUI/OVI laws are excessively long and that they need to be replaced with laws that are more logical.

The Super Lawyers® Magazine cover story explains that the lawyer’s passion for researching DUI/OVI testing methods started in 1997 after he lost a case that involved field sobriety test results. He looked up studies on these tests, found out how they were financially backed and obtained certifications in the area of field sobriety testing. He even took his interest in the matter a step further, getting public officials together so they could go through the experience firsthand of drinking and then taking field sobriety tests and breath tests.
