How can I tell if my spouse is cheating?

On Behalf of | Mar 13, 2019 | Family Law |

Infidelity is a common reason for many divorces in Ohio. When a spouse is unfaithful the whole family is affected, and even suspicions of infidelity can be enough to cause strife. If you think your spouse may be cheating, Psychology Today offers the following insight. While these signs don’t apply to every situation, they can be helpful for many couples.

It’s natural to be in communication with your spouse throughout the day, especially given the ubiquity of mobile devices. Accordingly, if you find your partner is unreachable at times, it could be cause for alarm. This is especially true during late work nights or business trips. While you may be afforded a reasonable excuse, it’s good to be wary if the problem occurs on a frequent basis.

Mobile devices can also point out fidelity in other ways. For instance, if your spouse suddenly has a password for a phone or computer, you might naturally wonder if he or she is hiding something. A sudden guarded attitude when it comes to these devices may also be notable. While many people value privacy, a stark change in how one treats their mobile phone or computer might signal an attempt at concealing the details of an affair.

Sadly, many unfaithful spouses will attempt to place blame on their partner for real or imagined transgressions. These justifications often take the form of a hostility, where the person may continuously pick fights or seem impossible to please. Being increasingly critical relieves the cheating partner of some of the guilt they feel, as well as rationalizing the affair. These changes often occur suddenly and may involve behaviors your partner found no fault with up to this point.
