Jon Saia recently completed his term as President of the Ohio Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (OACDL).

Under his direction, OACDL grew to over 700 members, increasing membership and participation throughout the State.

Education was a big part of Mr. Saia’s tenure. A total of 11 seminars were held throughout the State providing Criminal Defense Lawyers with invaluable education and trial skill techniques required to make them better lawyers. While most of the seminars were statewide, several were regional and held in non-traditional locations for OACDL. In addition to the Ohio based seminars, one seminar was held in Myrtle Beach, SC. Mr. Saia successfully brought back the OACDL Annual Retreat, a forgotten tradition of almost 20 years. The annual retreat included a legal seminar and symposium. Participation by members exceeded the goal and the tradition will continue for at least the next couple of years.

During his term, OACDL updated the “look” of the Association by recreating brochures and developing its website. Until December of 2016, the Association was utilizing a brochure which was first produced in the 1980’s. Saia indicated he wanted to give the Association a “newer and more modern” look. The website was updated and now includes a “Members Only” section which includes a brief bank, sample pleadings and hearing and trial transcripts.

“I feel like I left the Association in a better place than it was when I took office. I will continue to work with OACDL to make it the best Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers in the country,” Saia said.

As Immediate Past-President, Saia will continue to be on the Executive Board of OACDL.

Mr. Saia is currently President of the Central Ohio Association of Criminal Defense Attorneys. You can learn more about Jon and his practice at our Firm’s website: www.splaws.com.
